My version of the poster features a white hummingbird to play off the bird and hummingbird imagery throughout the movie, both from the villain and his victims, and the pure white of innocence as an important part of the movies visuals. This plays against the background of green, which is the color of the mind and of dreams. The carver logo, which plays a major part in the movie, cradles the dead hummingbird similar to the ‘cell’ that gives the movie its name.
This alternative movie poster is an homage to the trippy fantasy/sci-fi drama ‘The Fountain’ by Darren Aronofsky. The main image is an illustration of Hugh Jackman’s character in the final stage of the movie, moving through space towards an area known as Xebulba by the Mayans, encased in a biosphere. The orb is reminiscent of an atom, flying through the microcosmos, as a sort of metaphor for the Victorian idea of conception, as he flies into the dying cluster of stars and Nebulae in order to bring his wife back to life.
